Description
Creeping Fig is an evergreen vining plant that as a groundcover will quickly fill a space, but is most often used as an enthusiastic climber able to scramble up and cling to brick, stone or stucco walls, capable of climbing up to 3 to 4 stories tall! This vine coats and turns surface into “living walls” with a tracery of fine stems that are densely covered with highly attractive, small, heart shaped leaves about 1 inch long by about .75 in wide. They foliage is held closely to the surface creating a mat of foliage that extends barely 1 inch out. If you’ve ever visited Charleston, South Carolina, you’ll see a LOT of Creeping Fig covering walls on seaside homes.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing just a few inches tall and spreading or climbing up to 40 feet high, Creeping Fig is ideal for use to climb and cover brick, stone or wooden walls or other porous surfaces, where it forms a very attractive “live wall.” It also serves as an attractive evergreen groundcover or soil cover and spiller plant in container gardens and hanging baskets. Due to its fast rate of growth, Disney and the other theme parks make use of creeping fig to create “instant” topiary. Wire frameworks are created of geometric shapes, animals, and even famous cartoon characters. The frames are lined with sphagnum moss and filled with growing medium. Creeping fig is planted in the frame which rapidly grows to cover the shape in a thin coat of fine-textured juvenile leaves.
Growing Preferences
Creeping Fig is not particular about soil. It’s less aggressive and easier to manage when its grown in less fertile, drier soil. This vine will grow at seaside if protected behind dunes or buildings. It will tolerate full sun or shade however in the cooler regions where it will grow it should be planted on south or east walls to protect it from damage by winter winds. It is quite drought tolerant when established however you’ll need to provide it water during dry spells when young.

I wanted the 10 pack but it was out of stock so I ordered 3 of these pints (9 plants) and they came wrapped in paper and looking very healthy. So far, none of them have died. I planted them around the base of my deck planters with the intent of turning it a natural green.——————————We are so glad you are pleased! Beth | WBG 🙂
My Wilson Brothers order of creeping fig arrived about three days after I ordered online. Wow. I was absolutely sold at that point after waiting almost six weeks for an order from another huge company — DG. My WB plants were huge and well packaged to stay moist and not have any dirt fall out in transit. I had ordered a 10-pk of creeping fig from somebody else. Several died after which I decided to order the same from Wilson Brothers. I will never order another item from any other company! I set my WB creeping fig out in the same places as those from another company had died and they are thriving now! Some of the other company’s I planted weeks before are still puny and not healthy looking. My WB are taking off and I couldn’t be happier! Wilson Brothers can not be beat for price, speed of shipping (which is free!), appearance and health! I will never order from another company again!——————————–Thanks for the great review! Beth | WBG
