Jagged Jade Dwarf Male Ginkgo Tree – 3 Gallon Pot

A very rare and distinctive dwarf male Ginkgo, ‘Jagged Jade’ came from a branch mutation of ‘Jade Butterflies.” The leaves of Jagged Jade are thicker and the bluest of any Gingko we’ve grown having the typical fan shape but with jagged edges for a fringe-like effect, hence the name. With the arrival of cooler temperatures in fall, the leaves turn brilliant yellow. This is a relatively new cultivar so we’re not sure the size at maturity, but do know that it adds 4 to 8 inches in size per year. Based on its slower growth rate and form we’re thinking it might reach somewhere around 10 feet at maturity, give or take a foot or two. In any event, it’s a dwarf compared to the original species so is perfect for smaller garden spaces. Whereas the original species has a straight trunk and symmetrically-spaced horizontal branching, Jagged Jade has an interesting trunk and branches that bend in many directions. Easy-to-grow and extremely long-lived, the Jagged Jade Ginkgo makes for an outstanding specimen and conversation piece to show off in smaller garden spaces or large planters.

Note: All of our Ginkgo trees are males, which means they won’t have the less-than-desirable smelly fruits that smell like gym socks. Needless to say, we always suggest to plant male Ginkgo cultivars!

Growing slowly to an estimate of around 8 to 12 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide, the Jagged Jade Dwarf Ginkgo is ideal for growing in containers or as an accent tree in small garden spaces and home foundation plantings. Also excellent for rock gardens. When planted near a patio or other outdoor living spaces it is sure to be a conversation piece!

One of if not the easiest trees to grow, the Ginkgo adapts well to adverse growing conditions in urban areas. It is remarkably free of diseases, is insect resistant, and exceptionally drought tolerant when established. It adapts well to most soil types, even clay, and won’t be bothered by moist or dry soil conditions. Soil pH is of no concern as Ginkgo trees perform well in both acid and alkaline conditions. Avoid pruning other than to remove damaged branches or lower branches to expose more trunk.
